FOUNDER'S STORY

On September 23, 2019, I received the devastating news that my daughter, Journey, had a 96% chance of being born with Trisomy 21, the most common form of Down Syndrome. It was a moment that left me utterly stunned. I went home and allowed myself to succumb to an overwhelming flood of tears. I cried and cried until there were no tears left to shed. On my knees, I pleaded with God, desperately seeking answers. How did this happen? What do I do now? While medical professionals strongly suggested abortion, I knew in my heart that it wasn't an option for me. In the midst of my sorrow, I silenced my questioning and hoped for a clear path to emerge.

But then, something unexpected happened. In the depths of my spirit, I began to find strength. Thoughts of doubt were replaced by thoughts of determination. I realized that I could rise to this challenge and raise my child to become the best version of themselves.

Every mother faced with the possibility of their child having health and developmental challenges from the very beginning embarks on a unique journey. It becomes our responsibility to learn, guide, instruct, provide, care, and love our children, just as we would expect for ourselves.

As I delved into various literature and received recommendations for support groups, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more I needed to do. I yearned for a deeper connection, beyond the standard therapy classes and common fundraisers, which, of course, are valuable in their own right.

I turned to God once again, seeking clarity on the thoughts swirling in my mind. Slowly but surely, my vision began to crystallize. I recognized the significance of nutritional education in the development of these children. I wanted my child, as well as others like her, to feel a sense of belonging, to have access to resources that would foster their life skills and enable them to continuously grow in character and physical abilities. I desired a community where they could prepare themselves for the larger world. Furthermore, I envisioned their experiences leading to valuable research and progress that would benefit all individuals with special needs.

And so, on September 30, 2019, the journey towards establishing a nonprofit organization called "Mommy's Journey" began.
